In 2005 the Hotel Schönblick celebrated its 50th anniversary.

It was in 1955 that Sophie and Georg Schneider (parents of the current owner Georg Schneider) built a small bed and breakfast in the village of Augsdorf near Velden overlooking the lake Wörthersee. They named it Schönblick, meaning "beautiful view", because of the superb lake views.

By 1980 the small bed and breakfast had become a four star hotel. Even in those days the Schönblick Hotel was one of the mot successful in the area having an average occupancy of around 144 nights per year, roughly double that of other similar local establishments.

Over the years the business was developed by the enthusiastic hard work of the Schneider family with the support of loyal partners such as the Volksbank, other local professionals and some long-serving employees. Despite many trials and tribulations, service has always been a priority, hence the family motto, " All for the guest".

The largest single investment in the hotel to date funded the construction of a new east wing at a cost of two million Euros. This was completed by the end of October 1993 and enabled the Schönblick to accommodat 85 guests, rising to 100 with use of extra beds for children.

Ten years ago the average annual occupancy began to show a downward trend. To counteract this Georg signed a contract with the travel agency TUI. This paartnership has proved to be very successful and has resulted in an average occupancy of 125 nights per year eversince.

The owner´s 31 year old son, René, oversees the hotel´s web site. Two thirds of all bookings are now made over the internet, so today this has become an essential element of the hotel´s operation.

In 1996 Georg Schneider opened the Café Börserl in the Brunnenplatzl (Fountain Place) in Velden. Two years later he added the Augsdorf lakeside bathing area to his acquisitions. This enables guests to have direct access to the lakeside and enjoy a host of water based activities. The Hotel Chef, Helmut Schatz, and his staff are kept extremely busy supplying fresh snacks and desserts to both the café and the bathing area with the help of local patisserie, Christine Reichmann from Rosegg.

Georg´s heart is devoted to the a-la-carte restaurant where non-resident guests are also warmly welcomed  to dine in the intimate interior or al-resco on the terrace.
